Divorce is frequently a painful process, and best completed quickly. However, be careful not to make poor decisions, whether due to emotion or hurry.

If you agree to support obligations thinking you can discharge them in bankruptcy when the divorce is final — think again. You should settle matters in good faith, i.e., negotiate honestly, intending to do what is agreed. Most divorce debts will remain binding in a bankruptcy, but there are exceptions.
