Medical bills may overwhelm Ohio residents

Ohio parents likely hope that their children will always be safe and healthy. Unfortunately, accidents could happen at any time, and children could face serious illness or injury. In such cases, the main concern of the parents will undoubtedly be the well-being of their children, but they will also likely have to contend with the mounting medical bills associated with necessary treatments.

One family in another state is currently facing such difficulties after a toddler was bitten by a snake. Reports stated that the child and his mother were outside when the mother noticed the child flinch while trying to step over a brick. She thought he had scratched himself, but when the child's foot began to bleed and swell, she took him to the hospital emergency room.

Doctors informed the mother that the little boy had been bitten by a copperhead snake and needed anti-venom treatments. Each vial for the treatment costs $3,000, and the child needed 16 vials, resulting in a nearly $50,000 bill for that treatment alone. In addition to the anti-venom, the family is also facing expenses for hospital transfers, a three-day intensive care stay and the emergency room visit. A fund was set up by the mother's sister to help with expenses as the family has no medical insurance, but only a fraction of their costs had been raised at the time of the report.

When worrying about the well-being of a child, no parent should also fear about the state of the family finances. Unfortunately, medical bills can be overwhelming, and individuals can easily find themselves facing even more stress when thinking about how those expenses will be paid. If Ohio residents are similarly struggling, they may wish to explore their options for bankruptcy in hopes of getting back on stable financial ground.
