Fraudulent services prey on many seeking debt relief

Many in Akron view having to file for bankruptcy as the ultimate fiscal failure on their part. Yet often they allow that fear to drive them into making poor decisions in the name debt relief. It's not uncommon to hear ads from companies touting credit counseling or debt relief services that promise to help clients get out of debt and avoid bankruptcy, all while saving them money. Unfortunately, many of those who've enrolled in such services find out too late that they've paid a lot of money to these debt relief agencies without them ever having negotiated lower payments with creditors as they originally promised. Thus, they end up having not only lost money, but also in a worse position with their creditors than they were initially.

Understanding one's bankruptcy options

Try and try as they might, most in Cuyahoga Falls can't avoid debt. Debt in-and-of-itself isn't always a bad thing; it's the managing of the debt that can get people into trouble. If not left unchecked, one can easily spend his or her way right into the poor house. The stress associated with financial troubles can lead to strain in one's marriage, problems at work, and even issues with one's health. Yet despite the enormous pressure one may feel from mounting debts, there are ways to successfully navigate one's course back to solid financial ground.

City councilman files Chapter 13 over debt owed to the city

For many suffering from financial troubles in Summit, filing for bankruptcy still has a perceived social stigma associated with it. They may believe that should their decision to seek bankruptcy protection ever get out, they will be viewed as irresponsible and untrustworthy. While no one wants to be in the position to need to file for bankruptcy, seeking such protection in many cases may be the most responsible thing that they can do. And in many cases, it's not a sign that one doesn't want to repay their debts.A Chapter 13 bankruptcy actually helps them to develop a feasible repayment plan to many of their creditors so that they can still fulfill their responsibilities to them without the concern of a judgment or wage garnishment hanging over their heads. Many actually may be surprised to learn who in their own communities has sought such debt relief.
